The ECDC's inaugural state analysis revealed that states collect significant ECE data but collection is uncoordinated and gaps exist. Not only are states unable to answer critical policy questions about their states' public early care and education (ECE) systems; policymakers often struggle to obtain answers to basic questions about the number of children served in the state, the characteristics of existing programs, and the qualifications of the adults working in ECE programs.
